He signed professional terms with the White Hart Lane club in August 2000, despite never making an apperance, Toner was regarded as a decent player by the club. After loan spells at Peterborough United and Bristol Rovers, Toner joined Leyton Orient in May 2002 on a free transfer.
Ciaran spent two seasons with Orient, and was yet again a highly regarded player, he left the club in summer 2004 and headed for Lincoln City. Where The Imps fans were treated to some hard working and decent displays by Toner, despite injury checking his progress, it did not hinder him when he scored a stunning 18 yard striker against Grimsby in the 04/05 season.
Then came game over for Toner, a training ground brawl with Imps team mate Marcus Richardson, saw both players transfer listed and farmed out on loan. Toner spent a few months with Conference bound Cambridge United, while Richardson moved of to Rochdale and Yeovil Town.
Following a decent trial for 2 weeks Russell Slade offered Toner a 1 year deal. Also Ciaran has 2 International caps for Northern Ireland, he played in his countires 2-0 friendly defeat against Italy and the impressive 0-0 draw with Spain in the European Championship Qualifying Stages.
