No none sense keeper who replaced Jason Pearcey as the number 1 at Grimsby for the 1997/1998 season and what a season it was for both player and club. Davo was the best keeper in the league that season and managed a fantastic defence mainly consisting of McDerrmott,Lever,Handyside and Gallimore. Davison played his heart out and appeared in both trips to Wembley.
Aidan moved into the next season a gear above every one else and recieved a great pat on the back for his part in giving Town a fantastic 11th place in Division 1, the highest the club has finished in a long time. The following season Aidan earned a spot at Premiership promotion chasing Sheffield United, despite his move he did not settle and was only the number 2 at the club which sparked a loan move to Premiership relegation battlers and former club Bradford City, where he soon found himself agreeing a permanent deal ending his nightmare at Bramall Lane.
With a keeper crisis at Valley Parade in both seasons, Aidan was sharing his number 1 routine with Gary Walsh,Matt Clarke and briefly Neville Southall. Bradford were relegated the following year and Aidan stayed in goal as the number 1 at Bradford until the end of the 2002/2003 season when the club went into administration . Aidan was released and re-joined Town after Paul Groves convinced the now 36 year old veteran to return, and return he did.
No disrespect to Aidan but he was no shadow of the former Aidan Davison who played in the late nineties and the club found it self in another relegation battle.Aidan was then sidelined by a lenghty injury which paved the way for on loan Hull keeper Alan Fettis and young reserve keeper Andy Pettinger to try and save the club. Aidan returned to fitness just before the end of the season but could not shift Alan Fettis out of goal and at the end of the season despite a contract offer, he told the club he di not want to play in Division 3(League Two) and moved to Colchester United where he remains at the moment. Aidan was a great keeper in his first spell but the second time round all I would say was he was a novelty, a top name to have in the squad, and just another player.
