The former Preston man has missed the last eight games with a knee injury picked up in the late stages of the 2-1 win over Luton.
Up until that the Scotsman was fast becoming a fans favourite with his strike rate of 3 in 4 games.
Anderson returned to training on Tuesday and manager Paul Groves is ready to name him on the bench for the visit of Rangers.
"Iain has been in full training since Tuesday," Groves told the Grimsby Telegraph. "He had been making good progress after his injury but the big test was going to be when he joined in with the football.
"He has come throught and we are pleased. He does give us something different and he will go into the squad for tomorrow."
Anderson's inclusion on the bench could see Graham Hockless drop out the 16, a player who it seems Groves has an alarming lack of faith and confidence.
