The Welsh have their best chance to qualify for a major tournament in recent history with just a draw needed tonight to secure a play-off place.
Barnard is unlikely to start with Wales boss Mark Hughes prefering Gary Speed at left-back but the ex-Barnsley man is hoping for a place on the bench.
The Red Star Stadium will be at 50,000 capacity for the game with a reputation for a hostile environment, something that Barnard is confident his team-mates can cope with.
"It's going to be a sell-out," Barnard told the Grimsby Telegraph from his Belgrade hotel. Newcastle played here last week and Gary Speed and Craig Bellamy have warned us it will be a hot reception.
"Nathan Blake and Danny Gabbidon have been told to expect some racist abuse because it's quite common over here.
"A few of the lads have suffered from it before over here and we've just got to rise above it all.
"I'm sure we can. I'm 99.9 per cent sure I won't be starting. The team virtually picks itself.
"I'm just hoping that I can get a place on the bench.
"If we don't get beat we're down to the play-offs and we'll only need one win from the last three games. Fingers crossed, we could go to Italy and get a result."
Also in the Wales squad are former Mariners John Oster and Danny Coyne.
