22-year-old Boyd was released by the Cumbrians last season following relegation to the Conference, although he was hoping on a deal later in the summer.
Any hope of such deal has gone and Boyd now says he was approached by Town, although Kidderminster are also interested.
"I thought something might have cropped up after Mark Summerbell left, as Mark being on the wage bill was apparently part of the reason why I was released," he told the Cumberland News.
Boyd claims talks
"I was hoping something might happen to allow me to go back, but I haven’t heard anything from Carlisle United, so I’ve just got to get on with it.
"I’m talking to Grimsby today and I’ll probably train with them with the possibility of a move. The encouraging thing is that they got in touch with me.
"Kidderminster are also keen but we’ll just have to wait and see. I’ve been training on my own in Carlisle for the past few weeks, with plenty of running and swimming, but hopefully I’ll have something sorted out very soon."
