Allen came on as as 84th minute sub for goalscorer Vinny John.
The ex-England Under 21 cap had short spells with Peterborough and Bristol Rovers last season following his suprise release from Town in the summer of 2002.
Many fans felt Allen was treat poorly following his contract expiry and the decision not to renew his deal seemed absurd, especially considering the lack of striking options at the club at the time.
