Burnett wrote his name in Town history with his golden goal against Bournemouth in 1998 to win the Auto Windscreens Shield at Wembley.

The classy midfielder was a fans favourite after his move from Huddersfield in January of that year but a series of injuries prevented him from playing to his potential in the following years.

Brief glimpses were shown but the number of injuries and time out of action had taken it's toll.

After leaving Town last summer, Burnett joined Woking but soon found himself victim of the fans anger. A small part in Sky One football-soap, Dream Team, soon followed whilst the 32-year-old made no secret of his desire to return to professional football.

That chance could have been given to him by former Blackburn team-mate Mike Newell, now Luton boss. Burnett played in Luton's reserve team over Stevenage this week and will hope to further impress in training.
