The strapping defender has emerged as a key member of the team this season and is currently forging a solid defensive partnership with Mike Edwards.
The 21-year-old arrived on a free transfer from the Owls this summer and was handed a three-year contract, the sort of deal which most thought was gone for clubs of Town's size.
After a shaky start to his career at Blundell Park, Crane has grown in confidence and is rapidly gaining a strong following amongst the Town faithful.
Crane is grateful for the time given to him, by the fans, to impress and admits that the fans weren't not always as patient with the Owls.
"The fans are been really good to me which wasn't always the case back at Sheffield," he told the Yorkshire Sport. "It was difficult there as I wasn't in the team week in week out but they still expected a lot from you and that can put you off your game.
"It's a big club with big crowds but Grimsby is a lot different. It's smaller in size and the supporters don't expect so much. All they expect is 100 per cent and I'd like to think I give them that.
"At Wedneday I think the crowd could have a big effect on their form this season. The club started off well in Division Two and I thought they'd kick on from there and go up as champions.
"With the talent they have and playing in front of 20,000 every week, you'd expect that.
"However, playing in front of big crowds can sometimes work agianst them. Players get nervous at Hillsborough - I know I did when I played for Wednesday - and that can affect their performance."
The Liverpool born youngster has played all but one game for Town this season, the 3-1 defeat to Rushden, even that was through suspension. From what he's seen, Crane sees no reason why Town should not gain promotion back to Division One - but is well aware that a run is needed now.
"We're only four or five points of the play-offs, but we've got to get something going around Christmas or it will be too late," he confessed.
"With the players we've got we should be up there and there is a great spirit here at Blundell Park."
