The rookie collapsed in agony holding his knee during the 6-0 reserve drubbing of Darlington last Wednesday.
The 19-year-old travelled to Manchester for surgery on suspected ligament damage but it emerged the injury was far more serious than originally thought.
The unfortunate Carchedi had snapped his patella tendon whilst rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament, medial ligament and medial and lateral cartilages. All in all a very, very nasty injury.
The ex-Notts Forest youth had just hit form for the reserves following a move to a switch from striker to winger. Carchedi's youth terms end in the summer but the chances of him recovering before then are virtually non-existent.
Good news for the player though in that the club are likely to give him the remaining time (approx 7 months) to prove himself, once his rehabilitation is complete.
