Groves: Crowe is too good to leave out

Crowe was a suprise inclusion in the centre of midfield for the QPR game, depsite a solid performance at leftback against Rushden.

The summer signing put in a man of the match performance alongside Des Hamilton in the engine room and proved, once again, his class on the field.

Groves has now declared Crowe one of the signings of the summer, and vowed to keep him in midfield despite the gap left at left-back by Darren Barnard's international commitments.

"With what Jason did I can't leave him out of midfield. He worked well with Des and gave us great balance," Groves told the Grimsby Telegraph.

"It's a big area for us. If Crowey can go there and play like that then I'm loathe to leave him out. He's got great energy.

"It's a great find. With Alan (Pouton) and Stacy (Coldicott) out we're two down from in there. Des has had a number of different partners, different people and it's been a juggling act.

"Hopefully now we've found somebody in Crowey who can do it. He gives us great cover.

"Wherever he's played he's done well. With his performances in the last two or three games he deserves to stay in. He's too good to leave out."

Groves also told the newspaper of his luck at snapping up Crowe in the summer.

"People forget that he was £1-million player. He's got tremendous pedigree and he started his career at Arsenal," Groves added.

"We were lucky to get him. He got offered a new contract at Portsmouth, got injured, they went up and their priorities changed.

"He found himself in a situation where he needed a club and we were lucky to get a player of his quality."

With Crowe staying in midfield, Greg Young is likely to start the game at leftback. Young impressed during the 3-1 defeat at Rushden this month and whilst more comfortable at centre-back, is capable of playing at fullback.
