The club made an offer to the little midfielder last week to beat the FA deadline for contract offers to players under 24, should the club wish to claim compensation.
Hockless, who was well known to be on a shite wage last season, is believed to have been offered another poor deal - one he is far from happy with.
Now with hometown club Hull City, who released him as a 18-year-old, and Doncaster circling Hockless looks set to leave the fans who adore him.
Speaking to the Hull Daily Mail, Hockless spoke of the rumoured interest from the Tigers as well as the contract offer from Town.
"I've heard about the speculation linking me with City, and it's flattering, but as far as I'm concerned it's just speculation," he told the newspaper.
"As a player you hear a lot of things about other clubs who may be interested, but you don't really take much notice.
"Until my agent tells me about any concrete offers it is purely speculation and nothing more than that."
Of Town's offer: "I've got an offer on the table, but I'm not happy with it and it's now up to them to come back to me," he said.
"Whenever I played I feel I did well and I think I'm now ready for regular first-team football.
"Obviously, it was disappointing to suffer relegation, but with every game we played it helped me to gain more experience.
"Next season is going to be an important one for me and it's important I make the right decision about my future."
