Released by Walsall earlier in the month, Lawrence began training with Town last week. A deal was attempted on Friday but it wasn't completed in time for the 34-year-old to play against Hartlepool.
Lawrence put pen to paper today on a contract until the end of the season like those signed by Paul Warhurst, John Thorrington and Mikele Antoine-Curier.
Manager Nicky Law is well aware of Lawrence's cababilities having managed him at Bradford.
Capable of playing either wide on the right or in the middle, Lawrence will hopefully add some much needed pace and power into Town's engine room.
Speaking to MarinersNet, Lawrence was confident of helping Town avoid the drop.
"I'm going to bring commitment, experience and have a lot of legs, and I'm sure I can help Grimsby get out of trouble," he said.
