'Macca' signed a new two-year contract with the Mariners this summer after a deal to local rivals Hull fell through.
Despite a few days training, Macca is unlikely to be in the starting eleven for the Port Vale game on Saturday but may find himself on the bench at the expense of Mike Edwards.
With Marcel Cas facing a three-game suspension following his red card at Doncaster, Macca's return could not come at a better time.
Manager Paul Groves is keeping his fingers crossed that his captain comes through training with no fresh worries.
"Macca's trained for two or three days on the trot now, which is good news", Groves told Mariners Net. We will have to wait and see, hopefully he won't get any setbacks."
