No arguments from Groves

Groves was on field for the game in which it was back to wall stuff throughout. Despite the disappointment of conceding late on, Groves confessed a point would have been very fortunate.

"I've got no complaints today, the better side won on the day," he told Mariners Net.

"If we'd come away with a point I think we'd have been very, very lucky. It was just disappointing to concede so late.

"We never really created any chances and when you do that at places like Bristol City you're going to struggle.

"Give the lads credit today they have given their all. They got blocks in, they got headers in, Aidie made saves, we defended quite well until the last minute.

"I think that we've made three or four changes today and it showed. We never really had a spell apart from a little spell in the first half when we kept the ball.

"We never really created too much, perhaps one or two half chances but that's not enough. If you come to places like this and you're stretched, you are going to find it very difficult."

Robins boss Danny Wilson joined Port Vale boss Brian Horton this season in praising Aidan Davison after yet another excellent performance from the 'keeper.

"In the end Grimsby's goalkeeper has kept them in the game," Wilson said. How he kept the ball out on a couple of occasions only he will know.
