Oster back at Blundell Park

Oster originally starred for the Mariners in the 1996-97 season when he burst on to the first team scene as an 18 year old and manager Paul Groves has brought the midfielder back to Blundell Park from Sunderland after watching him several times for the Black Cats reserves.

Groves confirmed that he had been interested in bringing in Oster last season, but an injury scuppered the deal.

"John is a quality player who will bring versatility to the team. He has great awareness and he is a very sharp, bright player with good feet," Mariners Net.

"He's a great signing for us."
