Midfield actionman Pouton has been out of action since late July when he injured his knee......against Lincoln in a pre-season friendly.
After surgery and rest, the former York City man has begun training with the first team and all set for a Christmas return to the first team fold.
Manager Paul Groves will hand Pouton a place on the bench tonight with the promise of a late run out to aid his return to fitness.
Groves however admitted he won't be rushing back the man he is keen to build the team around.
It's great to have him back. He's something different, an extra edge to training, and having him around has added something to the dressing room," Groves told the Grimsby Telegraph.
"If we can get him back fit it will add some great competition for places, which has got to be healthy.
"If things go well, Christmas is the target. But it only needs a setback and he might miss that.
"He had a week training with us last week and did virtually everything. He'll play tonight and we'll see how he goes.
"The advice from the specialist was that he should play a game before he goes back there next week. Touch wood, everything will go well and then we can look at progressing him a bit more.
"We don't want to rush him back but it's pleasing that he's been able to get a pre-season under his belt. We want him to come back and stay back."
Centreback Simon Ford is another who will get a run out after his hamstring problems.
