Manager Paul Groves had planned to return Jason Crowe in the Boxing Day game against Oldham, after his one match suspension, to give Alan Pouton a slight breather.
The calling off of the Wrexham game has meant that Crowe will miss the next four games (Oldham, Peterborough, Wycombe and Plymouth). Pouton will now be fully tested as he will be expected to play 2 games in 3 days.
The all-action midfielder is still a fair way from full fitness, but such is his impression on the team that the consideration of resting him has long left Groves' mind.
Groves was clearly disappointed to have the option taken away from him, but he may still rotate other members of his squad.
"We were going to change things around but whether we get that luxury now, with the numbers that we have, we'll have to wait and see," he told the Grimsby Telegraph.
"We're aware that some people may not be able to do the two in three days and we'll have to look at it.
"There's been no game so we'll have to do some work. But it's trying to get the balance right of doing the work and allowing people rest ahead of Friday's game.
"It takes away the opportunity to at least rest one player with Jason."
