Ramsden has been, without doubt, the star performer at the back this season for Town. The former Sunderland youngster has put in performances that show maturity beyond his years.

Having struggled through the last few games with the problem, it has emerged that the situation is far more serious than first thought.

"We found out that Simon has a bulging disc, so it now looks like he will need surgery," Slade told MarinersNet.

"He was struggling and obviously his condition and his health are far more important."

Slade will now hope that either Glen Downey or Rob Jones can return to action sooner than expected.
