Thorpe impressed during his month's stay from Leyton Orient and had shown signs of an impressive partnership with Isaiah Rankin before injury to the Barnsley player.
Nicky Law and Graham Rodger before him were keen to sign up the 28-year-old on a permanent deal but it was Law who revealed the striker had better offers from elsewhere.

After agreeing to have his contract terminated with Orient, Thorpe put pen-to-paper on a two year contract at the Memorial Ground.
Speaking to the Rovers official website, Thorpe was clearly delighted about his new deal.
"There was interest from elsewhere, but I’m pleased to be here and I’m looking forward to it," Lee said. "The length of the contract Rovers have given me helps, and as a player, you always want to play for a big club which is what I feel Bristol Rovers is.
"It was a hard decision for me at first because I’ve moved around a lot, and living-wise I wasn’t sure if I wanted to come to this side of the country. But now I’ve come over and seen the club and spoken to the chairman I think it’s great here and I’m really pleased to be a Bristol Rovers player.
"I’ve just come back from a month at Grimsby which finished on Saturday, and I have to say that my time there went well and it worked out for me. I got a run of games, I played in a higher division, which was a good experience, and now I’ve got something sorted out at Bristol Rovers, so I can get on with my career again."
