With Alan Pouton and Marcel Cas departing this month, manager Paul Groves was given some of the freed wages to boost his squad and moved for the 6footer.

New signing Lee Thorpe
Thorpe has found himself in and out of the Orient team this season and manager Martin Ling has told him no new contract will be offered at the end of the season. In effect Thorpe is playing for a contract with Town during his month stay.

The journeyman striker has featured 19 times for the Orient this season, netting four goals and picking up a worrying seven yellow cards and one red.

Thorpe trained with his new team-mates today and admitted he's looking forward to parterning Michael Boulding up front.

"I found out yesterday and I jumped at the chance to come to Grimsby," he told MarinersNet.
"I know the area quite well from my time at Lincoln. I've played against some of the players here, and I know Michael Boulding is a decent player. I'm looking forward to playing with him."

Thorpe went onto describe himself as a player and his aims during his months stay.

"I'm hoping to lead the line. I'm hoping to do well, it's a good chance for me. It's a higher level and I have just got to work hard and see how it goes," he said.
"The teams performance is more important to me than goals, but I'm a striker and you always want to score goals - hopefully I'll get a few for Grimsby."

Thorpe hinted that he is after a permanent deal with Town.

"I'm not sure what might happen after the loan deal. I'm just here on a months loan basis, I'm still contracted to Leyton Orient. I'm hoping to impress, I'm hoping to get a better deal than what I'm on," he added.

"I'm training with the players today and hopefully I will be in the team tomorrow. I'm here to play football. I'm just looking to get playing and getting stuck in."
