The 24-year-old joined Town in a pre-transfer deadline day deal after he was released from Huddersfield.
The former Manchester United youth product started his first game against Bournemouth and then kept his place for the following game at Swindon.
However the winger proved to be lacking too much match fitness and lacked the physical presence required.
His only other appearance came as a sub in the 3-0 defeat at QPR.
Thorrington's contract did run until the end of the season but Nicky Law felt confident enough in his other available widemen to release him.
