Goalkeeper Andy Pettinger, defender Simon Ford and youth striker Liam Nimmo have left the club after they were told deals would not be offered.
The release of Ford comes as no suprise after two seasons of struggle for the former Charlton trainee after such a promising debut season.
Pettinger and Nimmo's release has come as a shock. Pettinger arrived at Town eighteen months ago from Everton after he become homesick. The Scunny lad had the offer to stay at Goodison Park but was missing home so badly he refused and was prepared to quit the game until Town stepped in.
With injury to Aidan Davison and the clubs failure to bring in a loan 'keeper, Pettinger was handed his professional debut in the 6-1 mauling of Barnsley. The youngster kept his place in the following defeats at Notts County and Wrexham before injuring his fingers.
After three impressive games, a new contract seemed a certainty.
Nimmo was thrown into the local limelight after a striker crisis saw him coming on as subs in the defeats to Hartlepool and Swindon last September. The then 18-year-old caused havoc with his size and looked a genuine threat. Since then the youngster was told he was too good for the youth team and became a regular for the reserves, whilst suffering from dips of form at times Nimmo has bags of potential and his release will shock many.
Nimmo's only saving grace may be his scholarship contract which expires in June, until that expires Town are unable to offer a new deal. Confused? Yes, us too.
