The new draw format of the cup saw seeded teams drawn against unseeded teams, some cynics may say a ploy to rid the competition of 'lesser teams' early on.
A home tie against Wigan is one of the better ties Town could have hoped for, with Wigan no longer the lower league strugglers their history has shown them to be.
With the JJB millions and Paul Jewell at the helm, Wigan have shown steady progress - eventually into the old Division One where they almost snatched a play-off place last season, only Brian Deane's injury time header denied them their place.
Jewell of course is no stranger to Blundell Park, the likeable Scouser joined Town on loan in 1995, playing a handful of games whilst Clive Mendonca recovered from injury.
From there Jewell became the suprise manager of Bradford, taking them to the Premier League and surviving relegation back to the Football League, only to quit for the job at Sheffield Wednesday.
His time at Wednesday didn't work out but he found his feet again at Wigan, where his Latics will be amongst the favourites to gain a promotion place this year.
The game will take place week commencing 23rd August.
