Late Omar Bogle penalty enough as Grimsby beat Newport
A late penalty from the in-form Omar Bogle was enough to earn Grimsby Town a 1-0 victory over Newport County.
The 23-year-old converted his ninth of the season, two minutes from time, after Tom Bolarinwa had been tumbled in the box.
Grimsby, who were unchanged from their weekend victory against Mansfield Town, started brightly and had three good chances in the first half.
Bogle saw an attempt saved by Joe Day, while Kayden Jackson miscued following good work from Danny Andrew.
Sandwiched between those efforts, Dominic Vose brought the best out of the Newport stopper with a sublime, curling strike.
At the other end, a tame header from Sean Rigg was as close as the visitors came.
After the break, Grimsby continued on the front foot, but McKeown had to be on red alert to deny both Mark Randall and Jon Parkin.
It seemed as though the hosts would have to settle for a point, before Dan Butler's lunge presented Bogle with a chance to seal it from 12 yards.
