Hartlepool made it seven wins on the trot and 592 minutes without conceding a goal as they moved into fifth place in League Two.
They had to work hard to tear down a determined Grimsby side that packed its midfield in the first half, but their patience paid off as they scored twice in the second period to clinch the points.
Pools had ten first-half corners yet from only three flag-kicks in the second half they scored twice.
The home hero was Willie Boland, who orchestrated the midfield and took the corners that created the goals.
In fact, their ten first-half corners brought mixed luck.
From one, with half an hour gone, defensive kingpin Michael Nelson picked up an ankle injury and after he collapsed a couple of minutes later was taken off and replaced by striker Jon Daly as Danny Wilson shuffled his side.
Gary Liddle took Nelson's place in the middle of the defence, while Eifion Williams moved from attack to midfield to accommodate Daly.
Yet it was from two of the corners that Pools created their best first-half chances. Ben Clark shot wide from one as Darryl Duffy desperately tried to get out of his way and Daly saw his header just before the break cleared off the line by Gary Croft.
But Daly was on the mark on 52 minutes when he ran from deep to glance in a great header from Boland's latest corner.
Grimsby, who had packed their midfield in the first half, had to change their formation but chances were rare for the visitors and Pools always looked more likely to increase their lead.
But they took until the 82nd minute to do so when another Boland corner landed nicely for Andy Monkhouse to celebrate extending his loan from Swindon by scrambling his second goal for the club from close range.
Grimsby tried to battle their way back but Hartlepool are in such good form that they didn't have a chance other than a long-range shot from Martin Paterson that keeper Dimi Konstantopoulos handled well.
