Swindon 2 Town 0

With Stacy Coldicott failing to recover from his groin injury, Chris Bolder made a suprise start in midfield. The move surely signals the end for Des Hamilton who was named as a sub. Awww, damn. He's my favourite!

Iain Anderson returned to the 16 and was also on the bench. Otherwise it was the same as the Bournemouth team for Town.

Early on Mooney threatened with a powerful free-kick that Fettis did well to parry away.

Quite unusually for games on the road, Town settled and soon started to dictate the pace. Bolder was a different player in midfield and looked more like his former self from two years ago.

Up front Jevons and Rowan linked up well and it was that combination that gave Town's first real chance at goal. Rowan's lobshot just whistling over the bar.

Superb passing from defence through to midfield released Jevons down the right on 30 minutes. Full of confidence, Jevons cut inside before shooting but former Chelsea stopper Rhys Evans got his body in the way.

Despite having nearly all the play, Town fell behind on 35 minutes. Flying winger Sammy Igoe crossed for Mooney who rose highest to head past Fettis.

Town resumed their attacking stance straight away and Thorrington was unlucky with a shot after waiting an age for the ball to come down for him, again Evans saved well.

Going in to the break at 1-0 would have been no disaster, not when Town looked the more likely team to score. However Town threw that away when they allowed Mooney to waltz through and dispatch beyond Fettis on the stroke of half-time.

Town bombared Swindon in the second half with some quite excellent play but once the defence was breached, ex-England Under 21 cap Evans was just unbeatable. Jevons found that out the hard way. Rowan's cross was inch perfect and Jevvo's header wasn't far off perfection, the save was perfect.

Barnard and Campbell tested Evans from distance with good shots, on this day though good shots weren't enough. Something exceptional would have been required.

A streaker felt brave enough in the second half and his half-arsed (geddit?) attempt at winding up the Town fans brought amusement.

Mansaram and Anderson were brought on in the place of Rowan and Thorrington in a bid to spice things up. Neither managed much of an impact although Anderson was on the wrong end of Brian Howard's late tackle with minutes remaining. Ref Andre Marriner, I'll leave it, showed a straight red.

Overall a massive improvement under Law so far in terms of performances. Last night chances were created and it was only the exceptional performance of Evans in goal and Mooney up front that seperated the sides.

Man of the Match - Chris Bolder. Not so much for his performance but more in consideration of how well he played considering his lack of football in the past few months. Oh and for keeping Hamilton out the team, always a bonus.
